Who's driving

You’re getting in a tuk tuk with a stranger. So — hello.

I’m Tiago. I grew up here in Albufeira, and I’ve spent the last four years driving people round this coast.

Most people fly here, spend a fortune, and never get more than four hundred metres from the hotel. Six days by the pool, one night on the strip, and the only photo they’re all in is the one at the airport. That’s the bit I mind.

So I keep it small. One tuk tuk, your group only, no fixed departure and no clipboard. If the kids want twenty minutes in the sea at São Rafael, we stop. If you want to sit at Castelo until the light goes, we sit. And I take the photos while you’re doing it, because somebody always ends up behind the camera and misses every picture of the holiday.

Bora just means “let’s go”. It’s what I say when everyone’s finally in.

Every one is private, starts at your door, and the photos are included. The only real question is how long you’ve got — ninety minutes, an afternoon, or the best part of a day.

The old town, the fishermen's beach and three clifftop viewpoints, in an hour and a half. The short one, and the one to do on the day you arrive.

The Sunset Hour

Ninety minutes west, timed so you're standing above the water as the sun goes down — the clifftop viewpoints first, then São Rafael with the low light behind the sandstone stacks. The best light of the day, and the photographs to show for it.

April to September, and the meet time moves with the sun: around seven in the evening at either end of the season, closer to half past seven in June and July. I confirm the exact time when you book, so check that rather than assuming seven. The rest of the year the sun is down before we'd set off, so it comes off sale instead of being sold as something it isn't.
If the weather turns
The sides come down, so light rain is fine, and if it's genuinely wet I'll move you to another evening or refund you — your call. What I can't move is the cloud. Some evenings it sits on the horizon and the sun just goes into it: you still get the cliffs and the light on the way out, you don't always get the postcard.

The Secret Beaches

Seven beaches east and west of town in five stops — São Rafael and Castelo share a headland, and Falésia runs east off the end of Olhos de Água, so two of the stops are two beaches you walk between. Two of the seven have car parks that are a handful of spaces on a dirt track, full by mid-morning all summer, which is why most people never see them. Swim stops if you fancy it. Towels on board.

I'll be there, or you don't pay

Outside your hotel at the time we agreed. If I'm more than fifteen minutes late and haven't messaged you, the tour's free. You're booking a stranger in a foreign country — that shouldn't be the thing you're worrying about.

Weather's rubbish? We move it

Not a refund, a better day — as many times as you like while you're here, at no charge. The sides come down so drizzle is nothing, but I'm not driving you round in the wet and calling it a holiday. If you fly home before we manage it, you get your money back.

Your pace, not my timetable

If the kids want another twenty minutes in the sea, we stay. I've never once cut a tour short to get back for the next one, and I'd rather run three good ones a day than six rushed ones.

How much is a tuk tuk tour in Albufeira?

The 90-minute Old Town run is €39 per person. The three-hour Secret Beaches tour is €65, and the four-and-a-half-hour inland tour is €82. Children aged 3 to 11 are half price. Every tour is private — just your group.

Do you pick up from my hotel?

Yes, free, anywhere in Albufeira — including Albufeira Old Town, Areias de São João, Praia da Oura, Montechoro, Santa Eulália, Balaia, Olhos de Água. Send me the property name and I'll tell you exactly where to stand.

Are the tours private?

Always. You'll never share the tuk tuk with strangers and there's no fixed departure to keep up with. Up to four of you in one vehicle; more than that and I'll bring a second driver.

Can you take a wheelchair or someone with limited mobility?

There are two steps up into the tuk tuk. I can help you transfer and fold a chair into the back, and some routes work better than others. Message me with what you need and I'll be honest about whether it'll work — I'd rather tell you no than have you waste a morning.

Is it safe for small children and babies?

There's a seatbelt on every seat and everyone wears one — kids included. Where I won't guess is babies and toddlers too small for a belt: message me before you book, tell me their age, and I'll tell you straight whether I can take them. I'd rather turn a booking down than get that wrong.

What if it rains?

The sides come down, so light rain is no problem. If it's genuinely wet I'll move you to another day free, or refund you in full if you're flying home.

Do you run in winter?

Yes, all year. The inland tour is honestly better out of season — there's nobody there and you don't need beach weather for it. I bring blankets from November.

Is there a toilet stop?

On the three-hour tour, yes, at Olhos de Água. On the inland tour there are two, at Paderne and in Alte. The 90-minute run doesn't need one — we're never more than ten minutes from town.

Are the photos really free?

Yes. I take 15 to 20 shots on the tour and send them to your WhatsApp the same evening. No charge, no catch, and you can do whatever you like with them.

How far ahead should I book?

Two or three days in July and August. Same day is usually fine the rest of the year. Late-afternoon departures go first everywhere in the Algarve, so message me as soon as you land if that's the time you want.

What languages do you speak?

English, Portuguese and Spanish.

We're more than four. Can you still take us?

Yes. I work with drivers I've known for years, so groups of eight, twelve or twenty travel together as one booking at the same price each. Message me with the number.
